Phygital Contenders: Abu Dhabi – Football Kicks Off with a Bang
Day one is over and the Phygital Contenders: Abu Dhabi – Football tournament kicked off with seven matches to remember!
The day started with Mexico Quetzales - Armadillos FC securing a stylish 8-1 win over OAA Esports, led by a strong performance in the digital round followed by an outstanding hat-trick from Aldair on the field.
FC Whitebird followed with a closer win (8-6) over La Crema, achieved by a dominant performance in the digital stage, finishing 7-3 in the lead. Orlando Pirates Fives also fought back from two goals down after the digital stage of the competition, to achieve a final score of 10-8 against Alkhdour DC.
Team Ghana dominated during the first stage, with Parker William MikeCaleb delivering four of their six goals. KMF Titograd returned to the field with a 4-1 lead, equalized the score 7-7, but lost in a penalty shootout with a score of 2-3 so that Team Ghana were victors!
The fifth match of the day between Interstellars – Team Joga and Navai was a goal-fest with a total of 20 goals scored – with five delivered by Adilet, making him the top goalscorer of the match. Final score was 11-9 to Navai.
In the next match, CM Jardim blew their competitors, Greni Smith, away with a comprehensive 5-2 win.
The final match of the day was worth waiting for – with a phenomenal performance from both Street Ball and Team Santa ending in a final scoreline of 12-9 to Team Santa.
With another four days of matches to occur, the level of excitement is only going to build as each of the 21 clubs fight for one of six places available at this year’s Games of the Future Abu Dhabi in December this year.
