Phygital Football

Introducing Phygital Football

Phygital Football is a brand‑new sport that brings together the thrill of video gaming and the intensity of real‑life soccer. Clubs go head‑to‑head in two stages — first on a console, then on a pitch — making every match a fast, action‑packed showdown.

This mix creates an experience that’s just as exciting for gamers as it is for athletes. It’s all about strategy, teamwork, and competition, giving fans and players a fresh way to enjoy the best of both worlds. Whether you're into gaming, sports, or just love something different, Phygital Football has a little something for everyone.

Competition Format

There are 16 clubs taking part in the competition — split into four groups of four. The groups are decided by a draw, with teams playing in a GSL format (no fifth match).

Teams

Each club has between five and eight athletes — including at least one goalkeeper. Players must be over 16 to take part.

2 stages

Digital (video game on console) + Physical (futsal on 5-a-side pitch)

Digital Stage

In this stage, four players from each club jump into the action on console. Two take the lead in the first half, and the other two step up in the second. Each half lasts four minutes. Players compete using special in-game teams created just for the tournament.

Physical stage

On the pitch, clubs line up with four outfield players and a goalkeeper — plus up to three subs ready to jump in. A match can't start or restart if either side has fewer than three players. The same club that kicked things off in the Digital Stage also takes the first kick of the Physical Stage. The game is played in two halves of five minutes "clean time" each, with a three-minute break in between.

How winner is decided?

Goals from both stages are combined and the winner is the club with the most goals. If the score is tied, the match is decided by a real-life penalty shoot-out where clubs take three kicks each from the 6m mark. If the score is still tied after three penalty kicks each, penalties continue until one team has scored one more goal than the other with the same number of shots taken.
