Battle Royale day two: Late win puts 17 Gaming in the lead

The second day of Battle Royale PUBG: Battlegrounds presented by Alatau City Bank had all 16 teams geared up and ready to bring on their A-game. The day also gave local fans something to celebrate in this fascinating and unpredictable tournament.

Match One

Day two saw teams throwing caution to the wind in the first match, going full-out with early battles in Phase 1. The initial shootout saw the elimination of home team Diga Esports alongside Anyone’s Legend and T1. This not-so-friendly fire set the highly competitive tone for the match, creating the pressure for other teams to retaliate. Overnight leaders Team Vitality were then eliminated in a disappointing start to their day.

Amid the chaos, the remaining teams were picked off one after the other until Team Falcons and GAM The Expendables became the final two on the battleground. Having adopted a patient and disciplined approach throughout the match, Team Falcons picked up the pace and timed their final push to perfection, securing the last eliminations and claiming the Chicken Dinner to jump up the overall standings.

Match Two

In another scrappy match, home side Diga Esports delivered their best performance so far, much to the delight of their fans in the audience, and earned their highest ranking points of the tournament.

With four teams left, Team Vitality annihilated DN SOOPers, leaving them facing Made in Thailand and Team Falcons for the win. Unfortunately, Team Falcons couldn’t deliver another Chicken Dinner, meaning the final shootout was between Made in Thailand – looking for their first Chicken Dinner – and Team Vitality. Once again, Team Vitality showed their prowess to take another win, with a phenomenal 11 kills – putting them back at the top of the overall leaderboard.

Match Three

The third match was definitely the turning point for teams that have underperformed so far. With most of the leading teams being eliminated with no ranking points, those further down the table grabbed the chance and showed their mettle.

Anyone’s Legend completely obliterated Team Falcons, while Virtus.pro stepped up to take out Shadow Esports and then Anyone’s Legend. As the match went on, excitement levels in the arena rocketed as Diga Esports were competing for ranking points for the second match in a row. Following the elimination of Team Vitality in fifth place, Diga Esports were the only team left with all their players. With the odds in their favor, they pressed forward and picked up their first Chicken Dinner. Unsurprisingly, the arena exploded in celebration.

Dauir Degemerzanov from Diga Esports said: “"Winning this match was very important for us because we're playing at home in front of our fans. We watched yesterday's matches, understood our mistakes, and made adjustments today. The support from the crowd has been incredible. You can really feel the energy, and when we win and hear everyone cheering, it's an amazing feeling."

Match Four

Another match, another underdog steps up! In a great battle on the Miramar map, teams found themselves in close contact for most of the match – meaning eliminations came thick and fast. The last four teams standing included Made in Thailand, who delivered strong performances in each match during day two, and GAM The Expendables, who have consistently been in the top three on the overall leaderboard. Joining them were Shadow Esports and FULL SENSE, who have been below par to date. However, they rose to the occasion, with Shadow Esports taking the Chicken Dinner and delivering another welcome surprise.

Looking at the overall leaderboard before the final match of the day, Team Vitality were still leading with 80 points, but with the very consistent GAM The Expendables closing in quickly with 76 points. So who would take the last match and could it impact the overall lead before the last day of competition?

Match Five

The final match brought several surprises. After such a consistent performance all day, GAM The Expendables lost three players in early exchanges. However, it was Team Vitality that were the first team eliminated – certainly a shock for the overall leaders in the tournament!

Made in Thailand followed them out of the match after a tough battle with DN SOOPers, who were then eliminated themselves. R8, FULL SENSE, T1 and GAM The Expendables were then expelled in quick succession – meaning everyone else left in the match would grab ranking points.

With very little cover available in the circle from Phase 7 onwards, it pushed teams into action. By the time Phase 9 came around, only Anyone’s Legend, GeeKay Sports, Shadow Esports and 17 Gaming were still standing. Battling in the middle of a crop field, 17 Gaming and Shadow Esports were racking up the kills and matching each other. However, it came down to Anyone’s Legend and 17 Gaming, with 17 Gaming securing the Chicken Dinner – their first win of the day and with 17 kills to their name.

The deciding day tomorrow

With that final match, the end of day two saw 17 Gaming at the top of the overall leaderboard with 89 points. Yesterday’s leaders Team Vitality had to settle for second place on 82 with GAM The Expendables just four points behind them on 78.

So looking to tomorrow’s final day of play – will 17 Gaming keep their top spot? Or will Team Vitality, GAM The Expendables, Made in Thailand or even Shadow Esports fight back and deliver a phenomenal championship win?
