Five days, one champion: Phygital Football concludes in Astana

The final day of Phygital Football delivered a dramatic conclusion to Phygital Contenders Astana 2026.

After battling through the group stage and knockout rounds, four teams remained in contention for the title: NS Team, ACF x Allur, KMF Titograd and FC OLYMPIC PHYGITAL.

With the semi-finals, third-place playoff and final all taking place on the same day, there was everything to play for as the remaining teams fought to be crowned Phygital Contenders Astana 2026 champions.

Here's how the action unfolded:

Semi-final 1: NS Team v ACF x Allur

ACF x Allur's unbeaten run continued as the home side edged past NS Team to book their place in the Phygital Football final. As they have throughout the tournament, ACF x Allur laid the foundations in the digital stage. Aknazar Bexeitov struck twice to hand the hosts a crucial two-goal advantage before the teams headed onto the pitch. NS Team responded with urgency in the physical stage and pulled one back through Elbio Chamorro to set up a tense finish. But ACF x Allur held firm to protect their lead until the final whistle.

Semi-final 2: KMF Titograd v FC OLYMPIC PHYGITAL

KMF Titograd produced one of the comebacks of the tournament to book their place in the final with a dramatic 3-2 victory over FC Olympic Phygital. FC OLYMPIC PHYGITAL appeared to be in control after taking a 2-0 lead in the digital stage. However, KMF Titograd responded brilliantly in the physical stage, scoring three goals, including a late winner in the final seconds.

Pavle Vukcevic from KMF Titograd said: "We believed from the very start that we could reach the final. Last year at Phygital Contenders Abu Dhabi 2025, we were eliminated in the quarterfinals, but this year we've spent a lot of time training across both the digital and physical stages and that work has paid off. The most important thing for us is the chemistry within the team. We always believe in each other, even when we're behind, and that gives us confidence going into the final."

With the semi-finals complete, the stage was set for the final round of matches at Phygital Contenders Astana 2026.

3rd place match: NS Team v FC OLYMPIC PHYGITAL

NS Team finished its Phygital Contenders Astana 2026 campaign on a high, securing third place with a 4-2 victory over FC OLYMPIC PHYGITAL. The match was effectively decided in the digital stage, with NS Team securing a two-goal advantage to finish the stage 3-1. FC OLYMPIC PHYGITAL fought back on the pitch, but NS Team matched every response to close out a 4-2 victory and seal third place.

Johnathan Herrera from NS Team said: "We're happy, although at the same time a little disappointed because it was the previous match that slipped away from us. But football always gives you another chance and, thankfully, we were able to qualify for the Games of the Future 2026. We'll come back looking for that opportunity and try to bring home a trophy."

Final: ACF x Allur v KMF Titograd

With the title on the line, ACF x Allur delivered one final victory to complete an unbeaten run and claim the Phygital Contenders Astana 2026 title.

The team from Kazakhstan faced their toughest test of the tournament against KMF Titograd in a closely fought final. Little separated the two sides throughout, with ACF x Allur taking a slender 1-0 advantage from the digital stage before extending its lead on the pitch. KMF Titograd fought back hard, pulling a goal back to set up a tense finale. Backed by a passionate home crowd, ACF x Allur held firm to secure a 2-1 victory and write its name into the history books as Phygital Contenders Astana 2026 champion.

We didn't concede a single goal in the digital stage throughout the tournament, and that gave us a strong foundation in every match. Now our attention turns to the Games of the Future 2026, and we hope even more fans will come and experience the atmosphere in person.”

Confirmed teams at GOTF 2026

With the Phygital Contenders Astana 2026 champion now crowned, and the qualification for all four teams assured, attention turns to the Games of the Future 2026. Phygital Football will be taking place at the Athletics Sports Complex “Qazaqstan” from 4-9 August.

The new qualifiers will join Rotor, CD Holcattes, Orlando Pirates and Peñarol in the confirmed field. They had already guaranteed their places through the 2025/26 WPC season rankings. Two more qualification places remain, and they will be announced shortly.
