Team Vitality tops day one as Battle Royale: Battlegrounds blasts off in Astana

31/07/2026

The high-octane, high-pressure Battle Royale PUBG: Battlegrounds presented by Alatau City Bank, has started its three-day competition at the Games of the Future 2026 powered by SAMRUK-KAZYNA.

Hosted at Beeline Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan, the first day saw 16 teams deliver everything Battle Royale is known for – tactical rotations, surprise eliminations, clutch fights, and a constantly shifting leaderboard where every placement and elimination counted.

Match One

The opening match saw teams cautiously scout the map, testing early-game strategies and positioning before committing to full engagements. The highly anticipated start quickly developed into a series of unexpected eliminations, with several fan favorites forced out earlier than expected. Anyone’s Legend capitalized on the opportunity, navigating the chaos of the final stages to secure the first Chicken Dinner of the tournament alongside seven eliminations, placing them at the top of the early standings.

17 Gaming and Twisted Minds exited earlier than expected, but strong performances in combat allowed both squads to collect valuable elimination points and remain firmly within striking distance.

Match Two

After an extended break due to technical issues, Team Vitality and JD Gaming were refreshed and came back fighting. Despite finishing bottom of the standings in match one, JD Gaming responded with an impressive fightback, battling their way into third place. Team Vitality, who went for a slow and steady strategy, came in hard at the end to take out not just JD Gaming but also Full Sense, securing six kills in the process and taking top position for the match.

Twisted Minds ranked fourth in the match, and GeeKay Esports, who came in seventh, still led the overall leaderboard, thanks to consistent performance and kill rates – with eight kills in each of the first two matches.

Andrey Pobedinskiy from Team Vitality said: "It feels good to bounce back with a win after a difficult first match. We know that when we play our own game and eliminate our mistakes, we're a very dangerous team, so that's our main focus. We came here determined to win after finishing fifth at the Esports World Cup, and we're motivated to put things right.”

Match Three

As soon as it looked like certain teams were getting into their groove, everything changed. Co-leaders coming into the match, GeeKay Esports were eliminated in 14th place, with no kills, meaning they slipped down the leaderboard. Twisted Minds were eliminated soon after, with only one kill – again impacting their overall position and opening the door for other squads to climb.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Made in Thailand produced their strongest performance of the day, securing second place. Meanwhile 17 Gaming showed exactly why they are a tournament favorite, executing a perfectly timed final push to claim victory and move to the top of the overall standings.

With an 10-point advantage over Anyone’s Legend in second place, 17 Gaming established themselves as the team to beat heading into the next phase of competition.

Match Four

Proving that nothing can be taken for granted, 17 Gaming were knocked out early in the match, joined by early favorites Twisted Minds. In their absence, Team Vitality stepped up once again – alongside JD Gaming, GAM The Expendables and Made in Thailand, all refusing to be eliminated. JD Gaming and Made in Thailand fought on with just one player left standing. Made in Thailand were first to be eliminated, closely followed by JD Gaming. Once again, Team Vitality came out on top, while GAM The Expendables delivered their best performance so far.

With 17 Gaming being knocked out so early, Team Vitality made up significant points in the overall rankings – taking second place and narrowing the gap with 17 Gaming to just two points. With the final game of the day looming, it looked like a two-horse race.

Match Five

PLOT TWIST! With nothing ever guaranteed, this game showed exactly what happens when a team comes from nowhere to flip the leaderboard. All the current front runners were eliminated early on – with only Team Vitality securing a point-ranking position in 8th. GAM The Expendables stepped up again, in a surprising final battle with DN SOOPers, who gave their best performance during the final showdown. With a full squad, DN SOOPers had all the advantage and seized their first Chicken Dinner.

Despite their elimination, Team Vitality continued their kill streak – delivering an additional eight points, securing 50 points for the day, beating 17 Gaming to be overall scoreboard leader at the end of day one.
